For the past few months I have been playing around with using google docs for student note taking. It is one of my goals as an educator to promote progressive, 21st century skills using the ample technology that we have access to at Clearwater Elementary. Using chromebooks in the classroom for note taking seems like a logical step forward in my classroom. After lots of small tweaks and improvements I have found a good note template that creates differentiated student engagement. By combining visual educational material (videos, maps, pictures) with informational text (passages, blogs, websites) student are able to quickly move through organized, relevant, and engaging information. For quick grading students are assessed in real time by filling in boxes for questions, comments, and notes. I will continue to improve (and hopefully write about) my use of google docs for student note taking.
