ELA:
- Students will read several sources regarding the pros and cons of planting a school garden in order to research the topic before making their claim for their argumentative essay.
- Students will use their research to write an argumentative essay with the purpose of trying to convince Mrs. Velez to allow 6th grade to plant their own garden on campus.
- Students will conduct short research projects about different 2-3 types of plants to analyze which plants will be most cost effective and useful to grow in our garden.
- Students will include this research as part of their argumentative essay (written with Mendez) in order to state the specific plants (fruits, veggies, flowers/vegetation) that they would like to grow.
- Students will create a plant growing guide that will list the steps to grow their specifically chosen plant.
- Use graphs and charts to compare costs of plants/upkeep
- Calculate costs using multi-digit decimals
- Create tables of equivalent ratios
- Measure the area of the garden bed to plan where plants will be located
